Making money online can be very easy, but it can also be very very difficult. I hear stories all the time of people with great ideas, who are hard working, but who in spite of their best efforts, simply can not make any money. So I've compiled this list of five common reasons people are not making money online.

#1 - Not Enough Traffic - Of course this is the number one reason people are not making money online. You can have a great product, or build great sites but unless your ideas are making you money they're simply not cutting it. Some ideas for increasing traffic to your site include: building feeder sites on free blog host like blogger, creating squidoo lenses that point to your site, buying paid ad spots, and optimizing for better search engine placement.

#2 - Not Enough or Poor Quality Content - having too little or poor quality content is a recipe for disaster. Content is king so you're going to need a ton of high quality content. If your website is still young give it time, but if it's been a while and you are not making consider your content. Are you copying everyone ideas? Are you making exaggerated unbelievable claims? Is there anything that set you apart from your competitors?

#3 - Bad Affiliates - If you are sending high quality traffic to your affiliates but not making any sales, then it could be time to change affiliates. Don't waste your time and efforts by sending your surfers to an affiliate who is not making money. Choose high quality, high paying and trusted affiliates. Use proven strategies like Google Adwords.

#4 - You're Working Too Little - A lot of people expect making money on the internet to be a breeze, but that's just not the case. If you want to make money online, you are going to have to work hard. The internet is full of talented and driven individuals who are making big money online, so if you are going to compete you have to work work work. If you're expecting to get rich with no effort then keep dreaming my friend. One common mistake is spending too much time researching how to make money online, and to little time actually making the money.

#5 -Poor Site Design - The days of simple and ugly old websites are gone. If you want to keep up with today's internet you are going to need a great design. A good design let's people know that you know what you are doing. A poor design seems lazy, and the surfer is less likely to think you are honest. Whenever I stumble across a poorly designed website I always immediately leave (I certainly wouldn't ever spend money on a poorly designed site).
